Botanically known as Senecio peregrinus, the string of dolphins never dissapoints. If you want to add a little whimsy to your plant collection then this is the one for you. Interestingly enough, they are trailing succulents that can grow up to 3 feet long! They look great draping down the side of a shelf or counter and especially hanging from a hook in the ceiling. If placed in front of a blue wall the dolphins will look like they are jumping right out of the ocean!
Think of the beach when it comes to your string of dolphins. You want to get there early to get a good spot right? Senecio plants like to get all the morning sun they can before the hot afternoon sun rolls in. Too much direct sunlight and they will burn just like you!

Be sure to plant your dolphins in a pot with good drainage holes. Remembering that they are succulents and therefore highly susceptible to root rot is important. Ideally they should be planted in a shallow pot filled with a well draining cactus/succulent mix. You can plant your dolphins in a tall pot but remember that they are shallow rooters so that soil below is just potential for holding on to excess moisture. Consider filling the bottom of a tall pot with rocks or even an empty pot turned upside down.
A regular water schedule of once every 7-10 days is great for your plant. You want to make sure the soil dries out between waterings but not for too long. Depending on the time of year and the temperature of your home you will have to see where you fall within that window.
If a dolphin falls off just throw it back in the pot. It will typically root in and start a new trail of friends to follow!
