String of Turtles

Did you grow up wanting a turtle but never got one? The perfectly fitting name, Shelly just going to waste because your parents said no. They probably had good reason. It’s your time now though and likely, still no turtle. How about a plant that is easier to care for than Shelly and still brings a lot of joy? We present to you, the String of Turtles. Even though they are also growing on a string like the Senecios this plant is actually a Peperomia.

The care is almost identical to the Senencios however. Shallow pots are the best and no drowning these little guys! Think more tortoise than turtle if you will. Nice, light, well draining soil. Regular watering with a dry out period in between. Filtered water is always preferred. A nice bright location is the sweet spot. No direct sunlight to burn their little backs. If you find that you are losing leaves after a relocation or a sudden change in temperature (especially colder) that is pretty normal. Consider picking up some B1 vitamin to help it through the shock. You can use B1 every time you water for an ailing plant. It is not a fertilizer it is a vitamin. Your SOT is not a plant that really wants or needs fertilizing in general. Much less expensive than keeping a turtle!
